Even though FM radios have been popular among radio listeners, many are making the switch from FM to satellite radio due to its worldwide coverage. These radios receive their signals direct from satellites and the signals are so strong that you do not need a satellite dish to receive the signals. Due to the curvature of the earth around two to three satellites are enough to cover an entire continent. If you listen to these radios you will be able to update yourself with the latest news from a larger spectrum of the earth. These radios are slowly gaining popularity among people.

Satellite radio is being used for many commercial purposes like playing background music in hotels, resorts and restaurants. The cost of operating these radios is also cheaper when compared to other radios. These radios are powered by satellites that are powered by 2.3 GHz S band and share the 1.4 GHz band with the local Digital audio Broadcasting. The quality of all the channels provided is not the same however. Some channels are crystal clear like CD quality sound and in some clarity is not so good. Portable radios that are powered by satellites are also available which look like music players with antennas.
